2022 in Review
January to June
In January, we held our first ever Good Trouble Monroe meeting via zoom!
April saw members attending the Earth Day Expo 2022 and speaking out at the County Commissioners meeting in favor of better conditions for the animals at the Monroe County Sheriff's Animal Shelter.
In May, we attended a protest for Reproductive Freedom hosted by Franklin Brooks.
We also attended 2 of the "Community Engagement" events held by the Monroe County Sheriff's Department and asked tough questions.
This June, Good Trouble Monroe participated as an organization in the annual Cultivate Community event. We helped 2 households clean up their yards by weeding, painting, planting, installing a flag, etc.
We also attended the Pride picnic hosted by Embrace and Prism!
July to December
In August, Good Trouble Monroe worked with the Anishinaabek Caucus of the Michigan Democratic Party to erect an anti-Custer billboard on I-75. We included a link to their website for more information.
Some of our members attended the annual Light Up the Dark event, the annual overdose awareness walk hosted by Recovery Advocacy Warriors.
We also participated in the 2022 River Raisin Clean up again this year hosted by the City of Monroe.
In September, we worked a table at Puente in the Park, hosted by Monroe Puente, a nonprofit organization supporting Monroe's Latino community.
In October, a few members joined a protest outside the city's courthouse calling for justice for Tracy Douglas.
For Native American Heritage month, Dr. Graham Denton spoke on contemporary Native issues to the La-Z-Boy Corporation
In 2023, Good Trouble Monroe would like to officially step into the nonprofit world and begin having more regular meetings. We have some ideas brewing! Keep an eye out for future events and reach out at anytime on Facebook or via email!
